CONGRATULATIONS to all of the athletes who competed in the 2013 GISA State Track & Field Meet May 2-4, 2013 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Over 930 athletes endured 3 days of RAIN and COLD to compete in the various events. They all persevered and completed the meet with records broken and high points!

GISA Annual Conference Updates

We hope you are making plans to attend the 2013 GISA Annual Conference on November 4, 2013. This year’s conference will be hosted by Woodward Academy in College Park. We are excited to have WES MOORE, best-selling author and youth advocate as our Keynote Speaker. The theme for this year’s conference is: THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF EDUCATION: Enacting Change through Motivation and Inspiration. We encourage you to volunteer to share your creative ideas, talents and expertise with your colleagues by submitting a proposal to present. Check the Annual Conference page for more details!

GISA Middle School Spelling Bee Winners!

CONGRATULATIONS to the GISA Middle School Spelling Bee Winners — 1st Place: Apurva Routhu, Woodward Academy; 2nd Place: Nicholas Poulos, Wesleyan School; 3rd Place: Varun Kumar, Pinecrest Academy; and 4th Place: Billy Chung, Mount de Sales Academy.

Apurva and Nicholas will advance to the STATE SPELLING BEE on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Georgia State University. We wish them the best at State!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Loveday $1000 Innovative Grant Winners!

The Teacher Services Committee of the GISA met recently to select the winners of the three $1000 Innovative Grants funded by the Fred H. Loveday Endowment Foundation. The ELEMENTARY Level Winner was St. George’s Episcopal School’s “Community Educational Trail.” The MIDDLE SCHOOL Level Winner was Chrysalis Experiential Academy’s “Saving the World, One Lobster Shell at a Time.” The HIGH SCHOOL Level Winner was Holy Innocent’s Episcopal School’s “French Secretary.” — Congratulations to the winners!

We are pleased to offer you the new GISA BULLETIN BOARD!

This is accessible on our website, under the SCHOOLS tab, click on GISA BULLETIN BOARD. Anyone may SIGN UP to post on the Board.

We ask that you use this board to post requests for information, sharing information, seeking items, selling items, coaches seeking games, etc., etc. This will replace the numerous EMAILS that the GISA Office sends out for our schools that wish to share information with their colleagues in GISA.

GISA & Mercer University announce deal to host State Championships

GISA and Mercer University, Macon announce deal to host the GISA State Championship Games in Basketball and Football for 2012-13.

Mercer’s Hawkins Arena will host the State Championship Final Four in Basketball this upcoming season, and Mercer’s Football Stadium, which is currently under construction, will host the Championship Football Games in 2013.
